How Solid State Relay Board differ
from other Mechanical Relays?
A relay is an electrically
operated switch which uses different operating principles from the
electromagnet to mechanically to solid-state
relays. Relays are preferably suited for controlling everything from lights
and motors to telecommunication, audio, and video signals. These come in many
sizes and ratings almost tens of thousands of relay varieties can be found on
the market. Solid-state relays have fast switching speeds compared with
electromechanical relays, and have no physical contacts to wear out.
Difference
between Solid-state relays over other Mechanical relays:
Both types of relays have
their own advantages and disadvantages. But solid-state relay board is most commonly used compared to
electromechanical relays.
• Solid-state
relays can be switched by a much lower voltage and at a much lower current
than most mechanical relays.
• Solid-state relays cab be switched faster
than electromechanical relays; the switching time of a typical optically
coupled SSR is dependent on the time
needed to power the LED on and off - of the order of microseconds to
milliseconds.
• Solid-state
relays have improved lifetime as compared to electromechanical relays even
if it activated more time as there are no moving parts to wear and no contacts
to pit or build up carbon.
• Solid-state
relays have totally clean, bounce less and silent operation.
• Solid-state relays can be allowed to use in
explosive environments as it is less sensitive to sparking, mechanical shock,
vibration, humidity, and external magnetic fields.
